The 84-kilometer North-South Ashtarak-Gyumri section, with 19 interchanges and 10 bridges, has opened in Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening of the northern section of the North-South highway project, from Ashtarak to Gyumri.
YEREVAN, April 20. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening of the northern section of the North-South highway project, from Ashtarak to Gyumri.
The total length of the Ashtarak-Gyumri section is approximately 84 km. Construction was carried out in four stages. The construction work was completed with financial support from the government, the Asian Development Bank, and the European Investment Bank.
As reported to the Prime Minister, the Ashtarak-Gyumri section is a first-class technical road with a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h. There are two traffic lanes in each direction, each 3.6 meters wide. The road also includes a 2-meter-wide technical or protective zone for parking in the event of a vehicle breakdown, for road repairs, and other purposes. Entrances to populated areas from the new road are organized through interchanges. A total of 19 interchanges and 10 bridges have been built along the section from Ashtarak to Gyumri.
Seventeen crossings for agricultural machinery have been constructed, as well as livestock passages under the road. Inter-field roads have also been built, providing access to residents' plots and homes. A lighting system has been installed at the interchanges.
According to the European Investment Bank, the total cost of construction of the Ashtarak-Gyumri section of the North-South Highway (Ashtarak-Talin, Talin-Landzhik, and further to Gyumri) is estimated at approximately €381 million.
