Azerbaijani fuel supplies broke monopoly on Armenia's petroleum products market, says Pashinyan
The supply of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia has completed the operation to completely break the monopoly on the petroleum products market, declared Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
YEREVAN, April 15. /ARКА/. The supply of Azerbaijani fuel to Armenia has completed the operation to completely break the monopoly on the petroleum products market, declared Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"Thanks to the peace that has been established, goods are now being imported into Armenia via Azerbaijani railways. Petroleum products are being imported from Azerbaijan, and as a result, our citizens have already saved tens of billions," Pashinyan noted during a parliamentary discussion on Wednesday of the 2025 report on the implementation of the government's 2021-2026 program.
According to him, the import of Azerbaijani petroleum products was the final factor in completing the operation to completely break the monopoly on the petroleum products market, which lasted eight years.
"In this regard, we are fighting the domestic Armenian mafia, which has ramifications elsewhere," Pashinyan said.
He believes that the crisis around the Strait of Hormuz would have had a much greater impact on Armenian citizens and the country's economy, both in terms of oil prices, inflation, and supplies, "if the historic opening of the Azerbaijani railway to Armenia had not occurred during this period."
On deliveries to Armenia from Azerbaijan
In mid-December 2025, a 22-car train carrying 1,218 tons of A95 gasoline arrived in Armenia from Azerbaijan via Georgia by rail. In early January, it was reported that 7,600 tons of Azerbaijani petroleum products (gasoline and diesel fuel) were en route.
Rail freight transportation from Azerbaijan to Armenia became possible thanks to agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8, as well as memoranda of understanding signed between the governments of the United States and Armenia. -0-
