Pashinyan accuses Azerbaijan of escalating tension in the region
YEREVAN, November 19. /ARKA/. Speaking today at the expanded-format sitting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Azerbaijan of triggering a new round of escalated tension in the region.
The prime minister noted with regret that the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council was being held in a tense atmosphere. He noted that both a year ago, when Armenia hosted a session of the Intergovernmental Council, and today, it faces serious challenges that threaten its security.
"Our region was dragged into a new round of escalations, which, unfortunately, led to more human casualties. The responsibility for this lies with Azerbaijan, whose military provocations are aimed at undermining the territorial integrity of our country and disrupting the agreements reached on November 9, 2020. and January 11, 2021, "Pashinyan said.
On November 16 Azerbaijani forces attempted to break through the Armenia’s state border before being repelled by Armenian troops. The Armenian Defense Ministry said November 17 morning that the enemy has up to 70 killed and wounded servicemen, as well as significant losses of military hardware, including 4 armored personnel carriers, 1 armored vehicle Sandcat, and 5 Russian-made trucks.
According to it, twelve Armenian servicemen were captured,’ the ministry said, while communication with 24 more servicemen was lost during the clashes and their fate is currently unknown. -0-
