Armenia and Azerbaijan discussed peace, trade, and continued dialogue in Istanbul

A bilateral meeting between Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan and Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova took place on Friday in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. A bilateral meeting between Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan and Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova took place on Friday in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The press service of the Armenian parliament reported.

During the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the recent developments in the normalization of relations between the two countries, including steps aimed at strengthening peace and stability, as well as establishing and expanding trade ties.

The interlocutors emphasized the role of the IPU as an important platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation. In this context, the parties highly appreciated and expressed gratitude to IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong for his personal efforts to foster dialogue between the speakers of the Armenian and Azerbaijani parliaments.

The Speakers of Parliament commended the contacts between their parliamentary delegations within international organizations that began following their meeting in Geneva in October 2025 and agreed to continue these contacts.

The parties also emphasized the importance of continuing constructive parliamentary dialogue to further strengthen trust between the two societies.
