The unresolved problem of restrictions facing Armenia could be "the beginning of the end of the EAEU," stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
YEREVAN, July 29. /ARKA/. The unresolved problem of restrictions facing Armenia could be "the beginning of the end of the EAEU," stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"We are currently recording that this is Armenia's problem, but that's not true. This is the EAEU's problem, since it turns out that the union is essentially in a state of collapse and is not functioning. If this issue is not resolved quickly, I would venture to predict that this will be the beginning of the end of the EAEU," he told reporters on Wednesday.
At the same time, Pashinyan emphasized that the Armenian government has no plan to leave the Eurasian Economic Union. "The problem arose because Armenia chose an alternative path. The question is when this alternative will be realized," the prime minister noted.
According to him, Armenia has a legitimate right to formulate alternatives in foreign policy.
"I told the Russian president that we have declared this path and will follow it, especially now that the Armenian people have voted for it. As I said during the pre-election period, the Republic of Armenia must always have an alternative on all issues," Pashinyan stated.
The prime minister also reported that he had held a lengthy conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the two sides reached an understanding on a number of issues.
"The dialogue with Putin was successful because we talked at length," he said.
Regarding a possible referendum on Armenia's accession to the European Union, Pashinyan stated that the vote cannot be held without a specific subject.
"Before holding the referendum, we must at least appeal to the EU regarding membership. We must decide for ourselves when to hold the referendum. There can be no ultimatums," the head of government emphasized.
Pashinyan also said that he had discussed with Putin the possibility of a meeting in the near future, but specific dates have not yet been determined.
