Armenia is ready to open the Armenian-Turkish border to third-country citizens and diplomatic passport holders and expects Turkey to fulfill the relevant agreement.
YEREVAN, August 2. /ARKA/. Armenia is ready to open the Armenian-Turkish border to third-country citizens and diplomatic passport holders and expects Turkey to fulfill the relevant agreement. This was stated by Ruben Rubinyan, candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and emissary for Armenian-Turkish normalization, at the first session of the 9th parliament.
Responding to a question from Agnesa Khamoyan, a member of parliament from the opposition Armenia faction, Rubinyan stated that some of the agreements between the two countries have already been implemented. These include the resumption of Yerevan-Istanbul flights, direct cargo air transportation, the possibility of direct trade, and an agreement on the joint restoration of the Ani border bridge.
"I believe the time has come for more active progress from Turkey in the Armenian-Turkish peace process. This is long overdue, and I don't know the reason and can't point to why Armenia and Turkey shouldn't have diplomatic relations tomorrow, or why the Armenian-Turkish border shouldn't be open tomorrow," Rubinyan stated.
He noted that the normalization process had progressed more slowly than expected, but expressed confidence that a full settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations was within reach.
