Armenian President Appoints Nikol Pashinyan Prime Minister

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed a decree on Sunday appointing Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister of the Republic in accordance with Article 149 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
YEREVAN, August 2. /ARKA/. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed a decree on Sunday appointing Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister of the Republic in accordance with Article 149 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. The decree is posted on the presidential website.
Earlier today, the Civil Contract Party, which formed a parliamentary majority in the new, 9th convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia, submitted a package of documents to the President of the Republic nominating Nikol Pashinyan for the post of Prime Minister, in order to ensure the procedure for appointing the head of government stipulated by the Basic Law.
On the same day, in connection with the opening of the National Assembly of the 9th convocation, Pashinyan submitted the resignation of the Armenian government to the President, who accepted the resignation. Until a new cabinet is formed, members of the government will continue to serve in their positions.
Nikol Pashinyan has served as Prime Minister of Armenia since May 2018.
