YEREVAN, January 30. /ARKA/. Armenia's national security strategy needs revision, President Serzh Sargsyan said on Tuesday during a meeting with the leadership of the foreign ministry.
According to him, the main challenges to Armenia's national security are directly related to the external environment. "I expect the ministry to play a tangible role in the revision of this document," Sargsyan said.
The president added that increasing the effectiveness of Armenian diplomacy is a demand of the time, prompted both by traditional challenges and threats, and by rapid changes in the world.
"The changes are creating not only challenges, but in some cases, also new opportunities. The diplomat's task is to predict and understand their character, to be able to use them in the interests of our country, Sargsyan said.
The president and the top diplomats looked also into the country’s medium-term foreign policy issues and the ways to increase the effectiveness of the ministry’s performance.
"I believe that effective implementation of foreign policy is as important for our country as domestic reforms. Moreover, successful implementation of domestic reforms is closely linked to foreign policy.
The foreign policy plays an essential role in improving the level of security of our country, protecting our interests in international relations, in long-term development and in the protection of rights and interests of our citizens abroad," Sargsyan underscored. -0-
