YEREVAN, August 24. /ARKA/. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan welcomed today his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Armenia late evening on August 23 on an official visit. "I am glad that you are in Armenia today; your visit is a significant event taking place ahead of the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries," Sargsyan was quoted as saying by his press office.
He described Turkmenistan as a reliable partner, noting also that there are all opportunities for both counties to step up their ties in virtually all areas. "We are actively communicating, and I am very glad that today we have the opportunity to talk about our future programs," the Armenian president said.
In turn, Berdimuhamedov thanked Sargsyan for his kind words and an invitation to visit the country. "This year, to be more exact, October 9, marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. I would like to say that during these years much work has been done to develop political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and Armenia.
The most important thing is that this visit gives a new impetus to our cooperation, revealing new opportunities and prospects for mutual relations," Berdimuhamedov said. He added that Turkmenistan today has great trade and economic potential.
"You have the same potential. I think we can use it in various directions, first of all in boosting trade, cooperation in energy, agricultural and health issues," Berdimuhamedov added.
"Our relations go back to the Middle Ages, and it is good that we have continued them to this day, being an example for the subsequent generations,’ Berdimuhamedov said. -0-
