ENA modernizes 27 distribution substations as part of its 2026 investment program

Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC is carrying out major repairs, reconstruction, and technical refurbishment of 27 distribution substations as part of its 2026 investment program.
YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC is carrying out major repairs, reconstruction, and technical refurbishment of 27 distribution substations as part of its 2026 investment program. This was reported by the company's press service following a working meeting dedicated to the progress of investment projects.
According to ENA, the work is being carried out in the Kotayk and Gegharkunik regions, as well as in several administrative districts of Yerevan. The company states that the implementation of the projects will significantly improve the quality of electricity supply to customers.
Specifically, major repairs are being carried out at the Gyumri-1 110/35/6 kV and Spitak 110/35/10 kV substations. The first supplies electricity to approximately 20,000 customers in the Shirak region, and the second to approximately 14,000 customers in the Lori region.
According to ENA, these substations are being modernized for the first time since their construction in the 1930s. The company estimates that a significant portion of the installed equipment is no longer operational and poses challenges for emergency restoration operations.
A separate investment project is being implemented in preparation for the COP17 biodiversity conference, which will be held in Armenia from October 19–30. ENA is completing construction of a new 35/6 kV modular high-voltage substation, "Noragyugh." Five new low-voltage substations are also being built on the same site.
The total budget for this project is approximately 2 billion drams.
Furthermore, the 2026 investment program includes the construction of a new 35/6 kV "Vardashen" substation. Following a power outage in late 2025 that left tens of thousands of residents in Yerevan's Erebuni district without electricity, a temporary substation was installed at the site.
The ENA states that the new substation will meet European standards and be equipped with modern equipment. The procurement process for the necessary equipment has already begun.
As of early September 2026, the ENA had received approximately 12,000 applications for new customer connections to the distribution network, approximately 5,000 more than in the same period last year. Approximately 7,000 new customers have already been connected to the distribution network, the company reported.
It was previously reported that the total budget of the ENA investment program for 2026 is approximately 46.7 billion drams excluding VAT.
