Armenia introduces a 14-day cancellation period for remote purchases – regulator on new rules
YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. Consumers in Armenia will be able to cancel a remote purchase or an offline contract without explanation within 14 days. This opportunity is provided for by new consumer protection regulations that will enter into force on July 1, 2026, according to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission of Armenia.

New legislative regulations, developed within the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Armenia and the European Union, were presented to representatives of businesses, public organizations, and other interested entities.

As Commission member Shushan Sargsyan noted, the changes are aimed at further developing the consumer protection system in line with international practice and creating a more predictable and transparent legal environment for doing business.

According to the new rules, sellers and service providers will be required to provide consumers with complete, clear, and understandable information. When concluding contracts electronically, the buyer will be required to separately confirm their payment obligation, and the order placement button must be marked accordingly, such as "order with payment obligation."

Furthermore, when concluding contracts over the phone, sellers will be required to disclose their identity and the commercial purpose of the call.

The amendments also expand the list of unacceptable terms in adhesion contracts. Specifically, sellers will not be able to unilaterally change the specifications of goods or services without sufficient justification, limit the consumer's right to terminate the contract, or deprive them of the opportunity to protect their rights in court or out-of-court proceedings.

The commission noted that such terms will be considered invalid from the moment the contract is concluded and will have no legal consequences for consumers.

Representatives of the commission also briefed meeting participants on measures to ensure compliance with the new requirements and penalties for violating the law.
