“Tourism is also an export”: Pashinyan announced good trends in the tourism sector

The tourism sector in Armenia also needs to be taken into account in the context of exports, said Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
YEREVAN, September 11. /ARKA/. The tourism sector in Armenia also needs to be taken into account in the context of exports, said Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
“We are seeing very good trends in the tourism sector, and we must consistently work in this direction. In particular, in conditions of peace, there are no obstacles to the full use of Armenia’s tourism potential,” Pashinyan noted at a government meeting on Friday.
According to him, consistent work on export diversification continues in Armenia.
“When talking about the export process, in particular seasonal agricultural products and products in general, we must always take into account tourism. Specifically from an economic point of view, tourism is also an export, because a person who in his own country would have to buy fruits or vegetables of Armenian origin comes to Armenia and consumes them here,” Pashinyan said.
In January-June 2026, more than 1.04 million foreign tourists visited Armenia, which is 14.8% more than the same period in 2025. Most visitors came from Russia - 416,743 people, or 40% of the total, Georgia - 150,322 (14.4%) and Iran - 81,180 (7.8%).
Throughout 2025, over 2.26 million tourists visited Armenia, which is 2.5% more than a year earlier.
