The Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia will conduct an inspection of the Armenia Marriott Hotel in Yerevan following the mass food poisoning of guests at a reception organized by the French Embassy to celebrate Bastille Day, the French Republic's national holiday.

According to the agency, on the evening of July 17, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention notified the Inspectorate that 10 people had contacted the National Center for Infectious Diseases and the Mikaelyan Institute of Surgery with a diagnosis of acute intestinal infection.
An epidemiological investigation revealed that all those infected attended a reception at the French Embassy in Armenia on July 14. During the reception, they consumed various dishes, including shawarma, pepperoni pizza, pork skewers, chicken, strawberries, and salmon bruschetta.
The French Embassy confirmed this on its social media.
After receiving the information, the Inspectorate began investigating the origin of the products used for the reception.
On the evening of July 23, the French Embassy in Armenia informed the agency that the catering services for the event were provided by the Armenia Marriott Hotel in Yerevan.
The Inspectorate noted that information about the incident was transmitted almost ten days after the cases were registered, so the relevant batches of products had already been fully consumed by that time and were unavailable for testing.
"Nevertheless, guided by the need to protect public health and to prevent similar incidents in the future, an inspection will be conducted at the Armenia Marriott Hotel. The results will be published," the agency said in a statement.
