Earlier on Monday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia intends to achieve visa liberalization with the EU in 2029 and may soon begin the process of applying for EU membership.
"There is a very important aspect here, which our representatives, especially the head of our state, also discussed." "After submitting its application (for EU membership - ed.), Armenia will have to begin the process of aligning its legislation in a wide range of areas—trade, phytosanitary, customs, and so on—with European standards, with those of the European Union," the Kremlin spokesman outlined the situation.
According to him, these standards are inconsistent with those adopted in Russia and the EAEU.
"And this is precisely where we will encounter profound contradictions that will primarily harm Armenia itself," Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman clarified that this is precisely why the EAEU summit adopted a statement in which the heads of state of the union called on Armenia to hold a referendum as soon as possible.
