YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. The European Union is preparing additional support measures for Armenia amid Russia's restrictions on the import of certain Armenian goods, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vasilis Maragos said at a meeting with Armenian exporters, Armenpress reports.
"Important meetings and telephone conversations are expected on June 4, including with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, after which additional support measures for Armenia will be announced," Maragos noted.
According to the ambassador, the purpose of the meeting with Armenian exporters and business representatives is to hear their proposals on how the European Union can help them diversify their export markets.
Restrictions on the supply of products from Armenia to Russia
In late May and early June, Russian government agencies imposed a number of restrictions on the supply of products from Armenia.
Rosselkhoznadzor cited "increased violations of phytosanitary requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union and Russia" as the reason. The agency's restrictions affected flowers, a number of vegetables, greens, strawberries, fresh grapes, stone and pome fruits, eggplants, potatoes, and dried fruits.
Rosselkhoznadzor also stated that Armenia must suspend veterinary certification of live fish and fish products shipped to Russian recipients from most Armenian companies, with the exception of two enterprises that passed inspection. Rospotrebnadzor also suspended the import and circulation in Russia of Jermuk mineral water, as well as wine and cognac from three Armenian producers.
