This story will end in diversification: Pashinyan on Russian trade restrictions

YEREVAN, August 20. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that the trade sanctions imposed by Russia are compelling Armenian businesses to explore alternative markets.

"Even if the Russian market were to fully reopen right now, we would still take further steps to ensure diversification and protect ourselves against similar circumstances in the future," Pashinyan remarked during a press briefing today.

In response to the demands from the Russian authorities, the Prime Minister emphasized that Armenia is prepared to carry out the necessary inspections.

"If the relevant Russian agencies have any concerns, we are receptive. We invite them to come, inspect, and let’s review everything together," Pashinyan stated.

Earlier this week, the Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor indicated that it anticipates the Armenian side to submit the findings of their investigation along with details on the measures taken, as well as a proposed action plan to ensure adherence to the veterinary and phytosanitary standards of the EAEU.

Since late May, Russia has been progressively implementing restrictions on the import of specific products from Armenia, citing breaches of phytosanitary regulations.

These restrictions encompass flowers, mineral water, various beverages, certain alcoholic drinks, vegetables, fruits, berries, grapes, potatoes, dried fruits, and subsequently live fish and fish products, as well as dairy items.

Additionally, there is a prohibition on the transit of Armenian-origin products through Russia to other EAEU nations. -0-
