Armenia to Provide Compensation for Purchases of Figs and Peaches: Economy Minister Presents Program Details

YEREVAN, August 20. /ARKA/. The Armenian government will offer canneries compensation for the purchase of figs and peaches, as announced by Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan.

"In our previous initiatives, we focused on directly supporting the export of fruit and vegetable products. However, this time, our aim is to assist the procurement process for further processing. This approach addresses a significant issue concerning figs and peaches. We are actively monitoring the situation, maintaining communication with farmers, and promptly addressing any identified problems," Papoyan stated during a government meeting on Thursday.

He mentioned that the Syunik region has seen a successful harvest of figs and peaches. There is a clear need for support, and export subsidies will continue to be available.

The minister revealed plans to introduce a new aspect to the program: a compensation of 125 drams for each kilogram of figs and peaches purchased.

"This initiative aims to tackle at least two challenges: ensuring the procurement and sale of the harvest by farmers and promoting the growth of the processing industry," Papoyan explained.

He estimated that by September 1, around 3,000 tons of peaches and 400 tons of figs are anticipated to be procured under this program.

"The procurement and processing activities will be overseen by the offices of regional governors to guarantee the accuracy of data regarding the actual volumes accepted for processing," Papoyan added.-0-
