Experts at Twinning, European Union’s program, are consulting Armenian specialists how to strengthen legislative platform for economic competition and governmental support.
YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. Experts at Twinning, European Union’s program, are consulting Armenian specialists how to strengthen legislative platform for economic competition and governmental support, the press office of Armenian State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition reported on Monday.

The antitrust commission, along with Twinning program, organized a round-table discussion in Aghveran, one of Armenia’s resorts, on Saturday.

Artak Shaboyan, head of the antitrust agency, speaking about protection of consumers’ interests and competition-related problems, said that the fines the commission imposes on offenders are not end in itself. “Our key objective is to struggle against offences and we are steadfast in our determination to do it,” he said. “Very often things are put right just during administrative proceedings.”

Shaboyan also said that not only fines, but also loss of reputation and public confidence strike hard at wrongdoers.
Stressing the importance of such discussions, he said that they enhance journalists’ professional awareness and make cooperation among the commission, the mass media and the society.

Sharunas Kezerauskas, expert at the program and head of Lithuania’s antitrust agency, presented measures being taken in the European Union to prevent abuse of dominance and anticompetitive collusions.

Twinning program aimed at protection of economic competition is financed by European Union (€1.1 million).

The program for 2011-2013 is being implemented by Armenia’s antitrust commission in cooperation with similar agencies in Germany and Lithuania.--0--
