Armenia is small in size, but possesses powerful scientific and engineering potential, said Eduard Musaelyan, Executive Director of the Union of Employers in Information and Communications Technologies (UEICT).
YEREVAN, June 3. /ARKA/. Armenia is small in size, but possesses powerful scientific and engineering potential, said Eduard Musaelyan, Executive Director of the Union of Employers in Information and Communications Technologies (UEICT).
"Armenian scientists and engineers have been creating solutions for various countries and sectors for decades, and today our goal is to leverage this potential to create new companies, new jobs, and new industries," Musaelyan said at the RISE Powered by Silicon Mountains 2026 forum in Yerevan.
According to him, the defense industry has long been a key component of technological development.
"History shows that various technical solutions widely used in civilian life were originally developed in the defense industry, for example, the internet and GPS. The internet is the foundation of communication today. "GPS is widely used in smartphones, cars, and logistics, but both were developed for defense purposes," Musaelyan noted.
He emphasized that today's competitive advantage is built specifically in defense technologies, which is why Armenia must have its own science, research centers, and defense industry.
