Armenia's construction sector reports 24.5% surge in the first half of 2026
YEREVAN, August 10. /ARKA/. Armenia's construction sector surged by 24.5% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 282.2 billion drams, as reported by Yeghiazar Vardanyan, Chairman of the Urban Development Committee, on the occasion of Builders' Day. He said taxes paid to the state budget by the construction industry in the first half of 2026 amounted to 126.4 billion drams, an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year.
According to Vardanyan, forecasts of a possible decline in the construction sector, a decline in sales, and the disruption of major state programs did not materialize, and actual results exceeded expectations.
He stated that major state programs, including the "300 Schools, 500 Kindergartens" program, will be fully implemented. A new phase of school construction has already begun, he added.
Vardanyan noted that, through the joint efforts of the state and the construction sector, programs for the construction of sports and medical facilities, roads, tunnels, bridges, and other infrastructure have been implemented and will continue.
He stated that the main requirements for construction companies remain the quality of work and adherence to established deadlines. He also cited the consistent improvement of the professional capabilities of industry participants as a priority.
Vardanyan reported that the Urban Development Committee has significantly accelerated and simplified the process of obtaining permits, from the design stage to the completion of construction.
In particular, for complexes consisting of several apartment buildings, the option has been created to obtain final documentation in stages. According to the head of the Committee, automatic receipt of construction completion certificates is planned for the future.
Furthermore, a rating process for construction industry participants has been launched, and a new pricing policy for construction has been approved.
Vardanyan also announced that the Committee had approved a list of international certification systems in the field of sustainable and green construction, the voluntary use of which will be encouraged through specific mechanisms.
Further priorities, he cited raising technical supervision standards using digital systems, renovating the housing stock, and adopting a law regulating development activities.
According to him, the relevant law was developed by several government agencies in collaboration with the Armenian Developers Association. ($1 - 366.17 drams).-0-
