The European Union will provide up to €200 million in grant funding to develop transport, energy, and digital connectivity in the South Caucasus, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced during a visit to Baku.

YEREVAN, July 2. /ARKA/. The European Union will provide up to €200 million in grant funding to develop transport, energy, and digital connectivity in the South Caucasus, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced during a visit to Baku.

Von der Leyen, along with European Commissioner for Enlargement Martha Kos, met with the President of Azerbaijan yesterday, Reuters reports.
According to Ursula von der Leyen, the initiative aims to support peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan by strengthening regional connectivity and providing targeted assistance to local communities.

"Our 'Peace through Connectivity' package will help build a peaceful and prosperous future for the South Caucasus. Together, we can turn peace on paper into peace in practice," von der Leyen said.

The European Commission also announced that an additional €20 million will be allocated to a program to support local communities in Armenia and Azerbaijan, including investments in healthcare, mine action, skills development, and local businesses.
