YEREVAN, July 2. /ARKA/. Armenia and the European Union are expanding cooperation in the economy, energy, digital sphere, and artificial intelligence. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Yerevan.

"Our meeting today once again confirmed that the EU is one of Armenia's most reliable partners. Armenia and the European Union are closer today than ever before. This is taking on a practical and economic nature," Pashinyan said.

According to him, during his talks with the head of the European Commission, they discussed Armenia's economic diversification and joint efforts to utilize various EU assistance mechanisms.

The Prime Minister thanked the EU for providing Armenia with €52 million in budget support and expressed hope for continued European assistance.

Pashinyan also thanked the European Commission for submitting to EU member states a draft proposal on the application of autonomous trade measures for Armenian goods.

"Once this decision is fully implemented, Armenia will be the first country without EU candidate status or a free trade agreement with the European Union to have this instrument recently applied," he noted.

According to the head of government, Yerevan expects to quickly complete the decision-making process in close consultation with its European partners. He expressed hope that the decision will be approved as quickly as possible, given the harvest season already underway in Armenia.

Pashinyan also reported on progress in developing connectivity between Armenia and the EU. In particular, the construction of energy storage plants in the country and possible EU support for this area were discussed.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of expanding energy connectivity, along with the development of transport communications within the framework of the "Crossroads of the World" project, including the construction of power transmission lines with Azerbaijan and Turkey.

"This could contribute to both strengthening energy security and the green transition," Pashinyan said.

He added that Armenia is interested in deepening cooperation with the European Union in the digital sphere, particularly in artificial intelligence, high technology, and innovation, as well as in creating conditions for increased private investment from EU countries.
