Armenia is set to rename three ministries: the reasons and objectives explained
YEREVAN, 12 August. /ARKA/. The Armenian government plans to present a bill to parliament aimed at renaming three ministries. Officials from these ministries shared insights with the Public Television of Armenia regarding the nature of the changes and the anticipated outcomes.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will be rebranded as the Ministry of Labor and Welfare.
Roza Babayan, an advisor to the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, mentioned that the minister is the driving force behind this conceptual shift. He believes the ministry should not only address current issues but also foster new opportunities for citizens.
"We must explore how to transform and align our policies to create opportunities for individuals," Babayan stated. She emphasized that all policies being implemented focus on welfare, and the new name should mirror the ministry’s evolved approach to tackling social issues. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is transitioning from merely responding to problems to becoming a facilitator through the execution of strategic programs," she added
The name of the High-Tech Industry will incorporate artificial intelligence.
Gevorg Mantashyan, the Acting First Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry, explained that adding artificial intelligence to the department’s title aims to highlight the increasing significance of this technology. He noted that AI permeates nearly every sector and is utilized in various industries where it can serve both supportive and transformative roles.
"We observe that global competition in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and related infrastructure is becoming increasingly vital. This positioning, of which the name is a component, will provide us with additional opportunities for more effective work organization," Mantashyan remarked.
The Foreign Ministry will be renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
David Karapetyan, the Secretary General of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, has connected the forthcoming changes to the enhancement of the economic aspects of the nation’s foreign policy.
He stated that following the peace summit on August 8, 2025, which will include the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States, Armenia is presented with new avenues for fostering international cooperation both domestically and regionally.
Karapetyan remarked, "The economic facet of our foreign policy has gained increased importance, which should ultimately lead to an improvement in the standard of living in Armenia."-0-
