US and Armenia working on TRIPP: Witkoff speaks about railway surveys and investment mechanisms
YEREVAN, August 11. /ARKA/. The US has been working with Armenia and Azerbaijan over the past year to implement the agreements through railway engineering surveys, public-private coordination, and investment mechanisms, wrote Steve Witkoff, US Special Presidential Envoy for Peacekeeping Operations.
In an opinion column on the Washington Examiner website, dedicated to the anniversary of the Armenian-Azerbaijani agreements in Washington on August 8, 2025, Witkoff reported that the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) concept was the result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiation process.
‘What was required was not another round of tired formulas, but fresh thinking, creative solutions, and, above all, leadership. That leadership came first and foremost from Trump, whose return to office created the decisive opening,’ he wrotwe.
According to him, the result was the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity framework: the United States is partnering with Armenia to establish unobstructed, multimodal paths across Armenia while fully preserving Armenian territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He says President Trump unstuck a problem that had befuddled diplomats for decades by insisting on practical outcomes over performative process. That approach paid off. The two nations’ leaders have now signed two monumental documents in their countries’ storied histories. The first is the joint declaration that set their peoples on a path toward permanent peace, economic cooperation, and full normalization. The second is their joint nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, marking the first time leaders of formerly warring nations have coordinated to nominate their mediator. Today, the TRIPP concept has gained worldwide recognition as a model for resolving intractable disputes through creativity, strength, and mutual interest rather than endless negotiation.
"We expect TRIPP to be extended through the Caspian Sea, and the concept itself to be developed in the Middle East," Witkoff wrote.
About the TRIPP Project
The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project envisions the creation of unimpeded multimodal transit infrastructure in Armenia while maintaining the republic's full sovereignty over the project's infrastructure within its territory.
Specifically, the project is intended to provide transport links between the mainland of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as expand regional routes linking Central Asia and the Caspian region with Europe.
In June 2026, Armenia and the United States signed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation on TRIPP; a joint Armenian-American company, TRIPP Development Company, was established to implement the project.
TRIPP is considered part of the broader Trans-Caspian Trade Route. To stimulate private investment along this route, the United States launched the Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund, capitalized with $201 million in US government funds.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has stated that TRIPP is primarily an investment project, expected to bring billions of dollars in new investment to Armenia. -0-
