Food prices in Armenia increased by 6.4% year-on-year in May and decreased by 2.3% month-on-month

Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 6.4% in May 2026 compared to May 2025, and decreased by 2.3% compared to April of this year, according to data from the Statistical Committee.

YEREVAN, June 3. /ARKA/. Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 6.4% in May 2026 compared to May 2025, and decreased by 2.3% compared to April of this year, according to data from the Statistical Committee.

Bread and cereal prices increased by 2.9% year-on-year in May and by 0.2% month-on-month. Rice prices fell by 3.7% compared to May last year and by 0.4% compared to April, wheat groats increased by 9.7% and 1.2%, respectively, buckwheat by 8.9% and 0.4%, flour by 3.2%, with a month-on-month increase of 0.5%, bread by 2.2%, with a zero month-on-month increase, and pasta by 8.8% and 0.6%, respectively. Meanwhile, lobi prices fell by 1.1% year-on-year and 0.8% month-on-month, lentils by 1.9% and 0.9%, respectively, and peas increased by 2.4% year-on-year and 0.2% month-on-month.

Meat prices increased by 12.4% in May year-on-year and 0.9% compared to April. Beef prices increased by 22.8% year-on-year and by 1.9% month-on-month, pork by 11.2%, down 0.2% month-on-month, mutton and lamb by 17.5% and 2.7%, respectively, and poultry (chicken) by 4.7%, down 0.2% month-on-month.

Fish and seafood prices in May 2026 increased by 3% compared to May 2025, and decreased by 0.7% compared to April. Fresh trout increased by 0.3% year-on-year and decreased by 0.8% month-on-month.

Prices in the "Dairy Products, Cheese, and Eggs" category increased by 13% year-on-year in May and decreased by 0.4% month-on-month. At the same time, pasteurized products increased in price by 8.2% year-on-year and decreased in price by 0.8% month-on-month, sour cream increased in price by 9.4% and decreased in price by 0.1%, respectively, cottage cheese prices increased by 6.9% and decreased by 0.2% month-on-month, cheese increased in price by 7.9% with a monthly decrease of 0.4%, and eggs increased in price by 30.8% year-on-year and decreased in price by 0.8% month-on-month.

Products in the "Oils and Fats" group increased in price by 6.8% year-on-year and decreased in price by 1.3% compared to April. Meanwhile, butter increased in price by 5.9% but decreased by 2.4% month-on-month, while sunflower oil increased in price by 11.5% and decreased in price by 0.2%, respectively. Fruit prices increased by 3.9% year-on-year in May, but fell by 2.5% month-on-month.

In the "Vegetables" category, prices decreased by 6.5% year-on-year and by 12.4% compared to April.

In the "Sugar, Fruit Puree, Honey, Syrups, Chocolate, and Sugar Confectionery" category, prices increased by 4.9% year-on-year in May and by 0.1% month-on-month. Sugar and granulated sugar increased by 0.2% compared to May last year but fell by 0.1% month-on-month, while chocolate increased by 7.8% year-on-year and fell by 0.2% month-on-month.

In the "Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa" category, prices increased by 6.4% year-on-year in May of this year and fell by 0.1% compared to April. Coffee prices increased by 6.4% year-on-year and decreased by 0.1% month-on-month, while cocoa prices increased by 20.5% and decreased by 0.5%, respectively.

Prices for mineral and spring water, as well as bottled drinking water, increased by 3.6% year-on-year and decreased by 0.1% month-on-month in May.

Among alcoholic beverages, vodka prices increased by 10.2% year-on-year and 0.6% month-on-month, wine by 2.2% and 0.8%, respectively, and beer by 4.9% year-on-year and 0.4% month-on-month.

Tobacco prices increased by 7.4% year-on-year and 0.2% month-on-month in May. Food products not included in other groups increased in price by 3.9% in May 2026 compared to May 2025, and by 0.5% compared to April of this year.

Meanwhile, in the non-food market, prices increased by 2.1% in May 2026 compared to May 2025, and by 0.5% compared to April. Tariffs for services increased by 2.7% year-over-year and by 0.2% month-over-month.

In Armenia, inflation in May 2026 compared to May 2025 was 4.2%, while deflation was 0.8% compared to April of this year.
