Pashinyan: If CSTO countries decide to expel Armenia, we will take it into account
YEREVAN, June 11. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the republic's authorities do not plan to change their current policy toward the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and are not concerned about possible discussions regarding the country's membership in the organization.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that CSTO member states had agreed to consider applying the relevant article of the organization's charter to Armenia due to non-payment of dues for more than two years.

"As for the CSTO, we are not going to change anything," Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.

Responding to a question about Armenia's possible expulsion from the organization, the prime minister said he was not concerned.

"I know there is a mechanism for expulsion from the CSTO, and it is in effect." "If CSTO member countries decide to expel Armenia from the organization, we will be forced to take this into account," Pashinyan stated.

Regarding Armenia-CSTO relations

In 2024, Armenia announced it was freezing its participation in the CSTO. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attributed this to the organization's failure to fulfill its security obligations to Armenia.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry also stated that Yerevan was refraining from contributing to the CSTO's funding within the organization's budget.

Yerevan previously noted that a final decision on CSTO membership could be made in the absence of a political reaction from the organization's countries to the situation surrounding Armenia's sovereign territories occupied by Azerbaijan.

The CSTO states that it continues to inform Yerevan of its decisions. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that Armenia remains a member of the organization and supports its decisions, but does not participate in its meetings.
