YEREVAN, March 21, /ARKA/. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation Peter Eriksson, who has arrived in Yerevan today on a two-day visit, discussed ways to strengthen the rule of law in Armenia, as well as to ensure the protection and transparency of human rights, which Pashinyan said are irreversible.

He said also that the visit opens up new opportunities for deepening ties between Armenia and EU member states, including Sweden, which has gained significant experience in these areas.

Pashinyan was quoted by his press office as saying that Armenia has a large reform agenda and is ready to expand cooperation with the EU within the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Erickson was said to have welcomed the changes taking place in Armenia towards strengthening of democracy, developing civil society, fighting corruption and developing a market economy.

He said Sweden is ready to expand relations with Armenia both in bilateral and in multilateral formats, including in the framework of the Eastern Partnership Program as a country that initiated this format 10 years ago. Pashinyan and Erickson discussed also prospects for cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as environmental protection and renewable energy.

They agreed that the sides should develop a Memorandum of Understanding, which will highlight specific areas and programs of cooperation.

The two men also exchanged views on issues of regional stability, including the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. At the end of the meeting, Pashinyan asked Erickson to convey his warm greetings to Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Leuven. -0-
