YEREVAN, June 1. /ARKA/. International investors have put forward a new proposal that calls for measuring the shortest route from Azerbaijan to Armenia and making it a toll road for international heavy-duty trucks, stated RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to him, the road could pass through the Tavush, Lori, and Shirak regions.

"They will invest as much money as necessary. [They] expect this road to be so shortened that drivers will prefer to pay and drive here," Pashinyan said during the election campaign in the Tavush region.

He noted that a study of the new road's route is currently underway.

In this regard, Pashinyan also emphasized the need to focus on renewing the railway, which is very realistic and will create the shortest railway from east to west. "To achieve this, we need to do the following: eliminate the landslide near the village of Haghartsin. This is a significant investment – approximately $500 million – but if the idea that this is the shortest route truly comes to fruition, the money will be invested, because whoever invests will know they'll get their money back," Pashinyan noted.

He also noted the need to connect the two lines near the village of Fioletovo and smooth out the elevation changes in those sections where the slope is excessive.
