YEREVAN, July 31. /ARKA/. Retail sales of Armenian cognac and still wine in Russia in the first half of 2026 decreased by 11-12% compared to the same period last year, according to market participant data cited by Kommersant.

Sales of Armenian cognac decreased by 12.2% to 1.37 million decalitres. The share of Armenian products in the Russian cognac market decreased to 20%, a loss of 1.7 percentage points over the year.

Sales of still wine from Armenia decreased by 11.8% to 239,650 decalitres. In June, the decline was 18.9% year-on-year. Armenian wines account for less than 1% of the Russian still wine market. According to market participants, sales of Armenian products are declining faster than the overall alcohol market. In the first half of the year, cognac sales in Russia (excluding French brands) fell by 4.6%, while still wine sales fell by 3.7%.

Experts attribute the decline in demand to several factors. In May, Rospotrebnadzor suspended sales of products from three Armenian producers: Vedi-Alco, the Abovyan Brandy Factory, and the Shakhnazaryan Wine and Cognac House. Furthermore, some Russian importers and distributors, according to Kommersant sources, reduced their purchases of Armenian products, fearing new restrictions.

Additional pressure on sales was exerted by an increase in the minimum retail price for cognac. Since January, the minimum price for cognac and whiskey produced from grapes aged for at least three years has increased by 16% to 755 rubles. According to market participants, rising prices and changing consumer preferences are also contributing to a decline in demand, with some consumers switching to more well-known brands or choosing other categories of spirits.
