YEREVAN, June 8. /ARKA/. Russia will expand restrictions on fish imports from Armenia if veterinary risks arise, Ilya Shestakov, head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, told reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"Russia has already imposed restrictions on live fish imports from Armenia. If factors are identified that could create veterinary risks, whereby this fish, when shipped, impacts our veterinary safety, further steps will certainly be taken," Shestakov said, according to TASS.

He noted that in addition to live fish, Armenia also exports chilled fish to Russia.

"Armenia has been a fairly large importer of trout. If we're talking about saturating the domestic market, this will certainly not have any impact. We have sufficient domestic trout production. Furthermore, imports will be replaced by other countries, including Turkey," the agency head added.

Rosselkhoznadzor previously stated that, effective June 2, 2026, Armenia must suspend veterinary certification of live fish and fish products shipped to Russian recipients. This restriction applies to all fish farms in Armenia, with the exception of two that were inspected following joint inspections conducted by the Food Safety Inspectorate of Armenia and Rosselkhoznadzor.
