YEREVAN, May 13. /ARKA/. At its meeting on Wednesday, the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia (PSRC) approved the 2026 investment program of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant CJSC in the amount of 3,404.5 million drams (approximately $9.23 million), excluding VAT.
"The investment program is aimed at the technical re-equipment and modernization of the NPP, as well as other necessary investments to ensure the operation of the plant," the PSRC stated in a Facebook post.
The ANPP has been temporarily disconnected from the power grid since April 1 due to the plant's operation extension program and a major scheduled preventive maintenance (SPM), which is expected to last five months.
Armenian authorities have stated that they have already decided on the type of future (new) nuclear power plant—modular—and that the specific model will be selected by the end of 2027. The operational life of the existing second power unit of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant has been extended until 2036.
