YEREVAN, July 9. /ARKA/. Yerevan City Hall announced that traffic on the Kievyan Bridge will be resumed two weeks ahead of schedule.
"The aboveground phase of the major overhaul of the Great Hrazdan Bridge, better known as the Kievyan Bridge, will be completed ahead of schedule. The bridge will reopen to traffic on August 15 instead of the previously scheduled August 29," the city hall said in a statement.
The repairs include restoring the roadway and pedestrian sections, updating expansion joints and the drainage system, waterproofing, completely replacing the railings, and rebuilding the superstructures and supports.
Furthermore, the outdoor lighting cables will be completely installed underground.
"The bridge's complete overhaul is planned for completion by the end of the year," the city hall announced.
Due to the major repairs, the Kievyan Bridge has been closed to traffic since June 17. For this reason, dozens of bus routes have been changed. This has led to increased traffic congestion in various areas of the city, causing discontent among residents.
