YEREVAN, May 29. /ARKA/. The corporate securities market in Armenia is still in its early stages and requires further development, in particular to support the investment of pension fund assets, stated Martin Galstyan, Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia.

"The nominal value of corporate securities in circulation is only $2.7 billion, while the net asset value of pension funds exceeds $4 billion," he said at an international conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Armenia Stock Exchange.

Noting that pension funds have accumulated significant savings since the introduction of the funded pension system, Galstyan said that the upward trend in savings is expected to continue.

"Furthermore, pension savings have so far grown faster than bank assets. Therefore, we need new corporate securities to channel these accumulated savings into the real economy," he emphasized.

The mandatory funded pension system was introduced in Armenia on January 1, 2014, and applies to all citizens born after January 1, 1974. According to the law, 10% of income must be contributed to the pension system, with citizens and the state making equal contributions (5% each) starting January 1, 2023.

According to Armenian law, at least 60% of fund investments are currently made in Armenian drams, and 40% in foreign currency on international exchanges.

The pension funds are managed by two companies: C-QUADRAT Ampega Asset Management Armenia LLC and AMUNDI-ACBA ASSET MANAGEMENT CJSC.
