Armenian government allocates 5.3 billion drams to support agricultural exporters
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has set aside around 5.3 billion drams from the Reserve Fund to support businesses involved in exporting agricultural goods.
According to a decision made on August 13, these funds will be allocated to reimburse entrepreneurs for expenses incurred during exports in June and July.
This specifically includes the export of various fruits (such as apricots, plums, cherries, strawberries, peaches, and nectarines); vegetables (including tomatoes and peppers); flowers; bottled mineral water; bottled grape and fruit wines; Armenian brandy (cognac); dried fruits and vegetables; as well as fish (trout and sturgeon).
Acting Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan reported that in July, 2,325 tons of peppers, 1,579 tons of tomatoes, around 3.6 million flowers, 7,010 tons of apricots, 1,715 tons of cherries, 430 tons of plums, and 1,645 tons of peaches and nectarines were exported, among other products.
"Thanks to the initiatives aimed at diversifying export markets and the efforts of entrepreneurs, we have seen significant progress in broadening our export destinations. In the last two months, flowers were sent to 26 countries, fruits to 21 countries, and vegetables to 14 countries," Khojoyan remarked.
He emphasized that entering new markets demands ongoing efforts to effectively position products, stick to delivery timelines, and fulfill retail chain standards.
"Simultaneously, entrepreneurs are adjusting to the evolving landscape and striving to seize emerging opportunities," he added.
Russia has imposed a ban on the import of all quarantine products that originate from and are shipped from Armenia, as well as their transit through Russia to other EAEU member countries. The restrictions specifically affect mineral water, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, greens, fish, and fish products.
In response to this situation, Armenian authorities have enhanced support measures for exporters by covering transportation costs and customs duties for the export of fruits, vegetables, and flowers to the EU, the UK, and Canada. Additionally, they are offering subsidies for various export goods. The list of subsidized items includes certain beverages, dried fruits and vegetables, and fish such as trout and sturgeon.
