Huge demand among Russians for winter holidays in Armenia
YEREVAN, December 19. /ARKA/. Some hotels in Armenia have put a blackout on prices after a surge in demand from Russian holidaymakers, Russian tour operator Space Travel said, Tass reported.
"Demand exceeds supply, the depth of sales is almost two months, that is, tours are booked not only for the New Year vacations, but also for January," Space Travel said.
Vice president of the Alliance of Travel Agencies, CEO of Pink Elephant network Alexan Mkrtchyan noticed that the choice of a certain destination depends on the region where potential tourists live.
‘For example, residents of Russia's southern regions choose Armenia and Georgia for winter holidays because of their cheapness," Mkrtchyan explained. A ski resort in Armenia is cheaper than the Krasnaya Polyana in southern Russian Sochi.
The most popular ski resort in Armenia is Tsaghkadzor, located 57 km northeast of Yerevan in Kotayk region. Since the Soviet times, it has been one of the centers for sports and recreation, where national teams trained in different disciplines.
In the early 2000s the cable car was replaced there and modern hotels appeared. Now there are about 200 of them, from budget options to luxury. The total length of the tracks is 30 km.
It takes one hour to get to Tsaghkadzor from the capital Yerevan. The manager of a hotel mentioned that the flow of Russian tourists increased several times compared to last year.
"Because of this we have hired new employees who speak fluent Russian. Now about 40% of the clients of our hotel are tourists from Russia, the hotel accommodates five hundred people. We expect a big flow, especially during the New Year holidays. We've already booked a lot of rooms for guests from the Russian Federation", the manager said. --0--
