YEREVAN, February 3. /ARKA/. Armenia’s tourism industry saw a one percent decline in 2015, economy minister Karen Chshmarityan said today. According to him, last year 1,192,120 foreigners visited the country.
Speaking at a news conference he said the decline resulted from less visits from the Russian Federation and Georgia, respectively by 6% and 11% (in total 60,000 visits). He added that Russians account for 45% and Georgians for 27% of all foreign visits to Armenia.
Among other reasons, according to Chshmarityan, are regional economic problems. At the same time, the number of tourists from Iran grew last year by 25%, from the UAE – by 38%, from Canada –by 16% and from the US –by 42%. -0-
