YEREVAN, June 7./ARKA/. Savel Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia party and president of the Tashir Group holding company, said he came to the polls in a fighting spirit.
"I will vote for the formation of a legitimate government," he told reporters.
He called the attempt to suspend the bloc's participation in the parliamentary elections "yet another manifestation of a lack of culture."
"Our supporters are being arrested right now. Many young people were arrested today. Yesterday, more than 100 people were arrested. It's nothing serious," Karapetyan said.
He denied rumors that the bloc distributed election bribes and that voting in its favor was organized by Armenian citizens who had arrived from Russia.
"I would be glad for Armenia not to be subjected to new upheavals. We must have good relations with everyone: America, the European Union, and Russia. These are countries that should help Armenia develop. We can't say that we will have good relations only with Russia or only with America. In our case, there will definitely be a balance," he promised.
About the elections
On June 7, at 8:00 a.m. local time, the regular elections to the National Assembly of the 9th convocation began in Armenia. There are 2,005 polling stations in the republic. Voting will end at 8:00 p.m.
According to the Central Election Commission, 2,505,102 people are included in the voter registry of Armenia.
Eighteen political forces – two blocs and 16 parties – are participating in the elections: the Reformist Party; the democratic party "I am against everyone"; the "Strong Armenia" bloc; the Meritocratic Party of Armenia; the reformist "New Force" party; Wings of Unity Party; Prosperous Armenia Party; Pan-Armenian National Democratic Pole Party; Kochari - National Revival and Awakening of the Nation Party; Armenian National Congress Party; Republic Party; Christian Democratic Party; Democratic Union Party; Democracy, Law, Order (DLO) Party; Civil Contract Party; Armenia bloc of parties; In the Name of the Republic - Defenders of Democracy Party; Bright Armenia Party.
