YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. At its session on Wednesday, the National Assembly of Armenia adopted amendments to the Law on Civil Service and several related laws in the first reading.

RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Lusine Kocharyan stated that the proposed abolition of the maximum age limit of 65 for various positions in the civil service system is being proposed.

According to her, with the amendments, age restrictions will be lifted, and only professional skills, performance, and efficiency will be grounds for termination of employment.

Kocharyan emphasized that the initiative is also based on the "Strategy for Improving the Demographic Situation in 2024-2040," which aims to ensure an active, healthy, and dignified old age by engaging older members of the population in the country's socioeconomic life and realizing their full potential. The proposed amendments are aimed at creating a non-discriminatory and rights-based labor environment, as well as harmonizing legislation with the current demographic situation.

The National Assembly also decided on a special procedure for discussing these amendments to the law.
