Construction of three major road junctions has begun in Yerevan, Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced at a working meeting at City Hall on Monday.
YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. Construction of three major road junctions has begun in Yerevan, Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced at a working meeting at City Hall on Monday.
According to him, these include the construction of an overpass in Noragavit, the Isakov Avenue-Arshakunyats Avenue interchange, and the completion of the unfinished section of the Babajanyan Street-Ashtarak Highway road.
Overpass in Noragavit
The project envisions the construction of a transport hub that will connect the Artashat Highway—the M2 North-South interstate road—with the H-8 Highway and 1st Street in Noragavit. Following the tenders, the total investment cost for the project is estimated at approximately 1.3 billion drams. The Mayor's Office previously reported that tender procedures had been completed and companies had been selected to carry out the construction work and technical supervision. Financing of up to 400 million drams was required to begin construction in 2026.
Isakov-Arshakunyats Road
The project is being implemented as part of the Yerevan Urban Development Investment Program with the participation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It includes the construction of a road between Isakov and Arshakunyats Avenues, a 269-meter reinforced concrete bridge across the Hrazdan River, and the reconstruction and landscaping of the area adjacent to Komitas Park. The new road is intended to provide direct transportation links between the Malatia-Sebastia, Center, and Shengavit districts and facilitate the redistribution of traffic flows. In May, the Mayor's Office announced that all tenders for the program had been completed and contracts had been signed. It was also reported at the time that the program would attract $80 million, including government co-financing.
Babajanyan-Ashtarak Highway Section
This section marks the completion of the previously begun construction of the 5.8-kilometer section of the Babajanyan-Ashtarak Highway road. 270 meters of the main road and a 110-meter access road remain unfinished. The work was previously incomplete due to legal disputes related to the alienation of property in the construction zone. After the lifting of the legal restrictions, it became necessary to review and re-evaluate the design and estimate documentation developed and approved in 2015-2016. In April 2026, the authorities announced their intention to complete the construction as quickly as possible.
