Armenia improves its rank in Doing Business 2017

Armenia is ranked 38 among 190 economies in the World Bank's Doing Business 2017 report and is 5 points up from last year’s Doing Business 2016 rank 43 (recalculated based on methodology changes and addition of one economy, Somalia).
YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. Armenia is ranked 38 among 190 economies in the World Bank's Doing Business 2017 report and is 5 points up from last year’s Doing Business 2016 rank 43 (recalculated based on methodology changes and addition of one economy, Somalia).
Armenia also improved its 'distance to frontier' rank by 1.47 notches from 73.63% in the 2016 report to 72.16% now.
New Zealand, Singapore, Denmark, Hong Kong, Korea, Norway, U.K., U.S., Sweden and Macedonia are singled out in the World Bank's report as the best country in the world to do business.
Brunei Darussalam, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Belarus and Indonesia are among the countries that have made the biggest strides in business-friendly reforms.
Among former Soviet republics, Estonia came 12th in the ranking, Latvia 14th, Georgia 16th, Lithuania 21st, Kazakhstan 35th and Belarus 37th.
Armenia has outdone Russia (40), Moldova (44), Azerbaijan (65), Kyrgyzstan (75), Ukraine (80), Uzbekistan (87) and Tajikistan (128).
The report revealed that extreme poverty rate is going down, and welfare rate is rising.
“The overarching goal of Doing Business is to enable entrepreneurship, for women and men, particularly in low and middle income countries. That governments around the world are taking up the challenge of improving the business climate, to enable job creation, is worth celebrating and we look forward to continue recording the successes we have seen this past year in the years to come,” said Rita Ramalho, Manager of the Doing Business project. --0---
