Pashinyan urges Armenian business community to use railway between Armenia and Azerbaijan as reliable route for imports and exports
YEREVAN, April 13. /ARКА/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has urged today Armenian business community to use the railway between Armenia and Azerbaijan as a reliable route for both imports and exports.
"We are now entering a completely new cycle of economic development, which, of course, is linked to the process of establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Pashinyan said during a working breakfast with representatives of Armenia's largest employers.
According to him, significant events are expected in the near future, primarily related to the launch of the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project. He noted that this project is significant in that it will ultimately lead to the Republic of Armenia fully lifting the blockade.
"But, in essence, Armenia has already overcome the blockade, as you know, rail freight transport is possible through Azerbaijan to Armenia, and it is being carried out," Nikol Pashinyan said.
He added that exports can also be carried out by rail through Georgia until the Armenia-Azerbaijan railway is opened, primarily within the framework of the TRIPP project.
"This is very important, and the political agreement is that this railway will never be closed. That is, it is a reliable route for both imports and exports," the prime minister said.
Earlier, on February 11, 2026, Pashinyan stated in an interview with Public Television that Azerbaijan had confirmed the possibility of using its railway for the export of Armenian goods.
According to him, rail service through Azerbaijani territory to Armenia is already operational, and the route from Armenia to the outside world through Azerbaijani territory is also open.
About the TRIPP project
Following their January 13 meeting in Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a joint statement on the framework for the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).
The document envisages the launch of a mechanism for the development of multimodal transit connectivity through Armenia, including connecting the mainland of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region and integrating it into the Trans-Caspian Trade Route.
Armenia intends to Authorize the creation of the TRIPP Development Company, which is expected to receive an initial 49-year term to implement the project.
It is planned to offer the United States a 74% stake in the company, while Armenia retains 26%. If the agreement is extended for another 50 years, the share ratio is expected to change. -0-
