YEREVAN, April 7. /ARKA/. Armenia has banned the entry of foreign citizens through checkpoints regardless of the country of arrival, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
It said the decision was made because the geographical spread of coronavirus infection is no longer limited to countries with tense epidemiological situation and covers almost all countries (territories) of the world.
The ministry said that according to the decision, any person who is not a citizen of Armenia or a member of his/her family, as well as a person who does not have the right to reside in the country, is prohibited from entering Armenia through a border checkpoint.
It said the decision does not apply to diplomatic representatives of foreign states, representatives of consular offices and international organizations, as well as members of their families, and persons who have the special permission of the task force set up to coordinate anti- coronavirus efforts, to enter the country.
The ministry recalled that upon entering the territory of the country, individuals must have special examination in order to detect the presence of the virus or its symptoms. After passing it, all persons are subject to mandatory self-isolation if hospitalization and / or other restrictive measures are not applied.
It also said that in case of refusal to have medical examination, hospitalization, isolation and other restrictive measures, the rights of these people to free movement may be limited.
Armenia declared on March 16 a 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of the disease. Later, it imposed stringent restrictions on the movement of people and also banned some types of economic activity.
As of today morning 853 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in Armenia. Eighty-seven patients recovered and eight people died. -0-
