Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, has been charged, RA Public Television reports, citing the Anti-Corruption Committee.
YEREVAN, August 25. /ARKA/. Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, has been charged, RA Public Television reports, citing the Anti-Corruption Committee.
Sargsyan is currently being held by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
"Within the same criminal case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee, former Armenian President S.S. has also been charged under Part 2 of Article 308 of the RA Criminal Code, adopted on April 18, 2003 (corresponding to Clause 5 of Part 2 of Article 441 of the current Criminal Code)," the committee reported.
On August 24, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia also opened a public criminal prosecution against second President Robert Kocharyan on nine counts: three counts of abuse of office, two counts of accepting a bribe on an especially large scale, and four counts of money laundering on an especially large scale. According to investigators, during Kocharyan's presidency from 1998 to 2008, state property was transferred to individuals and companies affiliated with him on preferential terms, including at prices significantly below market value and without public auction.
Criminal prosecution has been initiated against nine other individuals, including the second president's son, Sedrak Kocharyan; former Defense Minister S.S. (the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, held this position from 2000 to 2007 - ed.); former Prime Minister A.M. (Andranik Margaryan was Prime Minister of Armenia from 2000 to 2007 - ed.); and former Yerevan Mayor G.B. (Gagik Beglaryan is the former mayor of Yerevan in 2009–2010 - ed.) and a number of other individuals.
