YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. The European Union reaffirms its support for Armenia and its intention to deepen its partnership with it in the areas of economy, transport, security, energy, digitalization, and visa liberalization, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

"The Armenia-EU summit was held at the right time, providing an opportunity to expand our ties and take our unique cooperation to a new level. We will do this in several priority areas, the first of which is connectivity. We have signed a document on connectivity, which takes our partnership to a new level," von der Leyen said, delivering joint statements with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Council President António Costa in Yerevan.

The EC President emphasized the importance of developing transport communications.

"Very few countries enjoy such a unique position as Armenia. Your 'Crossroads of Peace' initiative has the potential to connect Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia, turning Armenia into a key transport hub," von der Leyen said.

According to her, the EU is ready to work on reconstructing border crossings with neighboring countries once the borders reopen, as well as to facilitate Armenia's integration into the regional transport network, particularly the Trans-Caspian Corridor.

Von der Leyen also expressed the EU's readiness to support Armenia's energy security, including in the area of renewable energy. This, she said, concerns the Caucasus Power Transmission Network project and the construction of energy storage systems.

She also emphasized the importance of the digital sector, artificial intelligence, and engineering solutions.

"Armenia is developing an amazing network of AI and engineering solutions. This is its strength. We encourage European companies to invest in Armenia," she said.

The head of the European Commission emphasized that the EU intends to deepen cooperation with Armenia in the security sector. According to her, the European Union, through the European Peace Facility, supports the Armenian Armed Forces and is also ready to assist the country in countering hybrid attacks, information manipulation, and disinformation.

"The only legitimate source of power in Armenia is the will of the Armenian people," she stated.

Von der Leyen also noted that visa liberalization with the EU is a priority for Armenian citizens.

"As we want to bring our peoples closer together, we are pleased to present the first progress report on the implementation of the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan. It is very positive. We are confident that we will achieve this," she said. She said that the initialing of a border management cooperation agreement between Armenia and Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, will help improve border management.

The head of the European Commission recalled Armenia's Resilience and Growth Plan for 2024–2027, which has a budget of €270 million. She stated that the EU expects the plan's implementation to mobilize €2.5 billion in investment and help Armenian businesses enter new markets.

Von der Leyen also noted the EU's support for providing housing for internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh.
