Armenia and Iran agreed to launch the Norduz-Meghri "green" customs corridor

The heads of the customs departments of Armenia and Iran agreed to launch the simplified customs corridor between Norduz and Meghri.
YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA/. The heads of the customs departments of Armenia and Iran agreed to launch the simplified customs corridor between Norduz and Meghri. The corresponding protocol was signed following a meeting between Eduard Hakobyan, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, and Foroud Asgari, Head of the Iranian Customs Administration, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The meeting took place in Jolfa. The parties discussed measures to simplify customs procedures and expedite the movement of trucks between the two countries.
According to Tasnim, an agreement was reached to develop a system for the preliminary electronic exchange of information on trucks (Pre-Arrival). A gradual transition from the exchange of paper documents to a digital format is envisaged.
Other topics discussed included mutual recognition of authorized economic operators (AEO/MRA), electronic exchange of customs information (EDI), and coordination of customs services between the two countries.
Furthermore, the parties agreed to extend the agreement on the joint use of the Norduz-Meghri border gate for 10 years.
The heads of the customs agencies of Armenia and Iran also visited the border infrastructure and learned about the organization of customs procedures.
Tasnim previously reported that Iran and Armenia are finalizing the agreement on a "green" customs corridor mechanism designed to expedite the passage of goods across the border. The mechanism envisages a reduction in the volume of paperwork and the number of customs inspections based on a risk management system, as well as advance electronic data exchange.
It is expected that the simplified regime will initially apply, in particular, to agricultural products, food products, and certain essential goods.
