YEREVAN, May 21. /ARKA/. On Thursday, the Armenian government imposed a temporary ban on whitefish caviar exports for six months, beginning July 6, 2026.
According to the rationale, the decision was made to ensure food security, sustainable use of bioresources, and the preservation of Lake Sevan's biodiversity.
This measure is aimed at ensuring the natural reproduction of whitefish, which is an important condition for sustainable commercial fishing.
It is noted that the ban will also prevent potential negative impacts on the international market for highly valuable whitefish caviar, reduce anthropogenic pressure, and ensure the conservation and restoration of the species' population.
