YEREVAN, August 14. /ARКА The amount of government subsidies to the tourism sector within the framework of anti-crisis programs may amount to 600-700 million drams per month, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said at a press conference on Friday. He said the country's tourism industry has lost 90% of its turnover due to the coronavirus crisis.
Khachatryan said one of the two measure approved by the government on August 13 is designed to help tourism industry companies overcome the socio-economic consequences of the coronavirus crisis.
The minister said the purpose of the measure is to help the tourism industry preserve jobs and stimulate creation of new ones. The list of beneficiaries includes sanatoriums, catering companies, travel agencies as well as providers of other travel services.
The assistance will be expressed in subsidizing the wages of every third or every fourth employee. This means the government will subsidize 25-30% of a company's salary fund. Larger assistance will be given to companies which despite the reduction in income, retained at least 70% of their jobs.
According to Khachatryan, there is no doubt that most of the closed or temporarily suspended companies in this industry will resume operation, but that will happen gradually.-0-
