YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. Armenia has all the prerequisites for becoming a popular winter tourism destination, the acting head of the State Tourism Committee Zarmina Zeytuntsyan said to a news conference today.
"Today, many Western Europeans and Russians arrive in Armenia for a winter holiday. Of course, in Europe there are many good places for winter tourism, however, some tourists are looking for the exotic," - she said.
According to her, the development of winter tourism in Armenia is already included in the Committee’s priorities for 2017. Winter tourism centers in Armenia are the resort towns of Tsakhkadzor and Jermuk as well as the Shirak region.
"Today we need to focus on the popularization of our winter resorts rather than on the creation of infrastructure. For organization of cross-country skiing we can use mountainous terrain of the country," – she added.
According to official data, some 1,192,120 foreign tourists visited Armenia last year (1% decline from the previous year). During the first 9 months of 2016 some 970,000 foreigners were said to have visited the country, a 3.6% year-on-year growth. -0-
