YEREVAN, April 5. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality has launched a project called "European Union for Yerevan: Solar Community", the press service of the city administration reports.

As part of the program, solar photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roofs of 100 apartment buildings. Currently, the installation process is already underway, the Municipality said.

Narine Abelian, head of a municipality department in charge of development and investment programs, noted that the cost of the grant program is 1.25 million euros, of which 250 thousand are co-financed by the Municipality.

“When choosing the buildings, we were guided by the established criteria, in particular, choosing 9-14-storey houses with flat and sunny roofs. The social component was also taken into account,” she said.

The program is aimed at reducing electricity consumption in public places. According to the consultant of the program Vahan Madoyan, the 360 W solar panels are made in Armenian. . Solar energy will provide lighting for all building entrances and staircases.

“New generation LED lamps with light, sound and motion sensors have been installed. This means that even the voice of a resident opening the front door is enough to turn on the lamp, ” said lighting engineer Artur Hovhannisyan.

This is a pilot program which is free for residents. After installation, the solar panels will become the property of residents and will last 15-20 years.

“There is also an interesting social component in the program. Low-income families will be provided with energy-saving lighting devices to reduce energy consumption in the house and save the family budget,” the Municipality said. -0-
