New Academy head calls for streamlining its research potential
YEREVAN, June 29. /ARKA/. Ashot Saghyan, the newly elected President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, called today for streamlining the research potential of the Academy, including the potential of the military-industrial area.
"After doing so, we need state funding in the form of targeted programs. We need to get them and try to work. The task is difficult, we have not been involved in the military industry for a long time," he said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Saghyan noted that, first of all, it is necessary to conduct monitoring and streamline the potential not as an end in itself, but as a meaningful objective considering each case separately.
“We need to make sure that science and research teams benefit from this,” he stressed.
Regarding the military-industrial complex, the new head of the Academy noted that the Academy is effectively working in this direction.
"First of all, it is necessary to understand which direction of the military-industrial complex, defense systems and research activities should be developed in the first place. After that, we need to monitor existing research groups of the Academy and decide which group of scientists can work on this or that direction," he explained.
Before his election on June 28, Saghyan served as Director of Armbiotechnology Scientific and Production Center. He replaced Radik Martirosyan, who headed the Academy of Sciences since 2006. -0-
